Since Igor said that
This species vs. Pieltainia iberica Arias, 1919. According to these pics this species is very similar to Pieltainia iberica Arias, 1919 [described from Cala, provincia de Huelva (Spain)]. However, Portuguese species has vestigial wings (in male only?) and slight differences in legs colour. It is interesting to note that P. iberica was found in early spring actively running about in pursuit of Sciaras and other microscopic Diptera on which it preyed.
I became very curious to meet Pieltainia iberica. When I got the article that describes Pieltainia, I became even more anxious to see this species so, this last weekend, I managed to go to El Espinar (Sierra de Guadarrama) in Spain. There, I found the spectacular Pieltainia iberica:D, or at least I think it’s that species.
As Igor said, this species is very similar to the Portuguese one (http://www.dipter...rowstart=0), but males don’t have wings and the legs are darker.:)
They were very abundant and behave in a way that resembles the Portuguese species, waving the abdomen up and down repeatedly.
It was very exciting to find this species that is so close to the one I found and I would love to, one day, register its behavior with more detail, since I had very few time to do it properly.
