Hello!
Is this 6 mm fly from a hedge (northwest Germany)
Empis punctata? Or are there similar species?

Thanks, Igor! I had that species already (pic below from May 2007), but excluded it in this case, because the thorax stripes seemed less distinct.

Scutal stripes are quite variable in this species and sometimes they are almost coalescent. Your photo is rather typical for darker specimens.
