Yesterday, in The Biesbosch in The Netherlands, we found a big Calliphoridaefly.
I caught it in a container, but because of the damage on it, a decent photo was out of the question. When trying to photograph it without the lid, it took off.
The description:
- Big
- Metallica dark blue abdomen (color compare C. vomatoria)
- Thorax more or less dull blue.
- Very hairy (pretty sure it's a tachinid)
- Orange face (not whole head, like T. grossa, but just face)
- Leg color dark blue/black
The only photo (orange face) I tried to take though the container is below.
I hope an iD can be made, I'm very curious, because I haven't been able to find a single similar species online yet...

You should look at Cynomyia mortuorum, in the Calliphoridae!
