Can somebody refute or confirm this is Myopa strandi ? It was caught 5-april-2009 near Leuven (Belgium). Thanks, Joris

I don't know strandi, but this one is not normal.
The wing reminds me of polystigma, however, the thorax is clearly reddish. So it might be something special,....

Strandi is very rare and hardly anybody has experience with this species, I guess.

There are good reasons for hirsuta (=strandi auct.) as the long hairs, the orangebrown posterior mesoscutum, the wing colouration. To be sure I have to check the specimen.
There is a revision of the testacea group with a new key published in Zootaxa. If anyone is interested in it I can send a pdf.
