Good morning,
this fly sat on my window on November 12, 2008, in Germany, Schleswig-Holstein, northern Hamburg suburbs.
It was c. 7 mm long, the golden shining
thorax is divided by 3 distincitve, elevated white stripes.
Legs: femur and tibia light brown, tarsus dark brown, almost black. Length of the legs equal to size of body (incl. head).
The eyes sit very closely together.
My 350 pages book on flies does not show any fly which is marginally similar. Is it possible to classify the fly family or even give it a distinctive name?

It might ring bells with someone but, as we say, "a picture tells 1000 words" ... and I can't see any picture :D

I bet, that when picture will appear - it will be a picture of Pollenia, Calliphoridae :D

It is Muscidae, my guess Phaonia fuscata

Looks like a
Phaonia sp. that has been attacked by an entomophagous fungus - hence the swelling and characteristic "legs stretched out" posture :)
