I think this is a rarely recorded species within the otherwise quite rare Odiniids. I think this is Odinia maculata.

Odinia for sure. I don't know if odiniids are really rare!? I think it's more that they are rarely collected. Last year I collected almost 200 odiniids (probably all O. maculata) by means of a beer trap (canopy trap). In the beer traps I also collected about 60 periscelidiids, another family which is said to be rather rare. I think "rare" is a term that is often used too easily.

Yes, I think you are right. We do not see many flies, beacause we do not really know where and how to look for them.
