Thread subject: Diptera.info :: T.rex, large fly from Queensland

These large flies are hanging around a patch of bare sandy ground near my house. They fly with a very tail down attitude and when I processed the photos I notice that in the side on view the front legs are very reduced, like a T.rex. About an inch long they fly quite slowly and land often but don't let me get close for better shots unfortunately. All help appreciated

It is a Bombyliidae.

I have also seen the Holotype so can confirm the accuracy of this above web-page
