Patriotic to whom/what? Nice fly though.
Now if it was Red Yellow and Black the Aussie Aboriginal People might think it was patriotic.

Hey Roger, Red White and Blue are the Australian national colours, its only our sporting colours that are green and gold. There have been attempts to have the flag changed to include the aboriginal colours but not much progress there yet. Thanks for the comment on the fly though.

Hi Trev
I know the colour of your National Flag...there was supposed to be a small hint of sarcasm in what I said. My brother is in Oz, he does a lot of stuff for the Aboriginal People....you might want to google him. His name is Davie Thomason....Made the front page out there a few times.
Still a nice fly.

Try to post this in the Syrphid section. I have no idea on the genus.

Hi,
It's a female Microdon, related to M. fergusoni Goot, 1964 (= M. modestus Ferguson). Currently I am revising the subfamily Microdontinae. This might well be an undescribed species, but I have not yet seen all Australian type specimens.
Cheers,
Menno
