Hi,
I hesitated whether I should bother you with another boring
Suillia, but be it. Meanwhile I have taken pictures of so many specimens, and in most cases genus level was the best we could find out. I was told that females could not be identified, but to my shame I have to admit that I even do not know how to tell the
Suillia sexes apart...
As to this specimen from last June, I have lots of pics from all angles. I can supply more, if a special bristle is needed. However, I would appreciate information what characters are absolutely necessary for ID. So in the future I could decide if a
Suillia picture is probably worth to be shown in the forum.

a female ! , the fat abdomen is probably full of eggs !.
males have a big rounded capsule !

So, well keyed out in Gorodkov, 1972 and Czerny, 1927 (Fliegen der Paläarktischen Region): arista strongly plumose, mesopleuron bare, scutellum fully haired, occipital hairs not blackish !. Face flattened , cross veins with darkened areas.

http://www.dipter...d_id=13855 belonged to the same species - at least there is a strongly plumose arista, too. However, Phil said females cannot be identified...
