to which family belongs this fly? Is a closer ID possible? Hagen, NRW, alder marshland, 175msm, February 6th 2008,

The female of a common Chironomid. These early and abunant CHironomids belong to several species of Smittia, Pseudosmittia. If it was not larger than say 4 mm than these genera are the most likely.
