Today I found this fly (c.8 mm) in heathland hibernating in young pines. Can someone give an ID for it?
Thanks,

Sorry Nikita, this fly doesn't belong to the Heleomyzidae. This is a member of the Pallopteridae:
Palloptera scutellata. I have to admit that id does look rather heleomyzid-like.
This fly is associated with
Juncus (mostly
Juncus effusus I think). Interesting André that you found it hibernating in young pines.

Thanks everybody! I found this fly by the Hatertse Vennen near Nijmegen in the Netherlands. At 21 jan.of this year I found the same fly on about 2 km. distance. It is hibernating on the same places as Sympecma fusca, a dragonfly.
