I suppose this fly belongs to the family Therevidae?
Photo 18.6.08 , seen in a garden in Lower Austria, near Vienna.

Looks more like a Rhagio tringarius to me.

No, this is indeed a Therevid; a female, so unlikely to go much further...

Do you have a frontal view? The females of this family are easier as the males (quire an exception). Thereva sp female.

The vittate thorax and time of year suggest Th. plebeja / strigata
