Hi, this is the largest Tachinid I've seen - found in W-Hungary, July. Only saw it for a blink but it seemed to be around 2 cm. Maybe Nemoraea?

I'd agree with Nemoraea pellucens :) They are pretty big; with a wide, flat abdomen; they hold their wings out in that way; they have a ruff of paler hair behind the head; and the head is smaller in proportion to the body than a lot of other tachinids.

Thank You, I noticed also that they have a little head:) What do they parasitise? I found it under N pellucida, BTW.

They can parasite:
Orthosia cerasi (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)
Dypterygia scabriuscula (Lepidoptera)
Hyloicus pinastri (Lepidoptera)

myabe there are much more.

Sorry - pelluscens ... pellucida ... it was too early in the morning for me to remember it correctly ... next time I will wait until I have drunk my first cup of tea ;)

It is quite unusual.
It is a male (vertex, pulvilli), however, the orange markings on the abdomen are hardly visible.....
