Hi

This photo was taken by Artour, in Panama in 20th AUgust 2008. Which tabanid is it? Theo, can you recognize this one?

That won't be easy, but I'll give it a try.

Note the strongly bifurcated antenna, so it must be in Diachlorini. That gives me a headstart....

It is somewhere in or near the genus Dichelacera.
It should be obvious to the experts:
I can't find Dichelacera or lookalikes with completely dark wings from Panama.

I have been fooled by the light. The wings are not completely dark, the base is clear (but difficult to see).

So this is 100 % Diachelacera and the species is nearby crocata
