Hello!
I came across a fly which looked much like this and was labelled a Stevenia sp. Rhinophoridae. Tachinidae is the Family I think of when I see all those hairs! Thanks! :) Janet

Whatever it is, it is not Stevenia, since the topcel is open.
My gut feeling is Tachinidae, possibly a very dark Phorocera.
The eyes would need to be hairy, for that, can't tell from these pics.

Thank you Theo! I have another pic from above, it wasn't a very big fly. It flew away and came back about 3 minutes later, at least I think it's the same fly. Still can't see the hair on it's eyes though! :)

Given the last pic, I'll change my mind to Sarcophagidae

Thank you Theo, I can see Sarcophagidae in the eyes, there are so many of those! Looking through my pics I have a few similar but with some white. Janet

Thanks again Theo! All good experience, I guess to ask for an idea of the Genus is stretching it too far....:D
