Hi,

this cranefly was inside on 13th May. The large spots on the wings make me think it could be Rhipidia maculata female, but I am only guessing! There is a male in the Gallery. Thanks!

Thanks roger, I was way out! :) It looks like a Sylvicola sp., that's all there is in the gallery :D

Could anyone ID to a species?

Janet

How about Sylvicola fenestralis? There's a dark one on Gardensafari which looks like it.

I posted one of these on 16/09/08 and didn't get a reply.
It is in danger of falling off the bottom of page 38 as I type this quick reply. :|.

Bump it quickly then Roger if it's still there! ;) I posted a few craneflies a while back too with no answer, these good people were probably out looking for more flies to take pics of :D

I feel safe enough to call it Sylvicola fenestralis for my records, it is common. If Paul feels that's safe I would put it in the gallery here too!
