I talked with Christine some days ago about a similar fly and she suggested
Polietes.
Is these

I think it's
P. lardarius, but I'd need a lateral view to be sure it is not
P. meridionalis.

Unfortunately I don't have any lateral view.
On this bad facial view, we can discern the lateral thorax, but there's likely not sufficient.
According to Fauna Europaea,
Polietes meridionalis seems to be lacking in Belgium and the Netherlands, but there's maybe a mistake (not the first one on this site)

Well, it was worth checking : with this broad golden parafacialia it is very likely
P. meridionalis (if I see well).

Hi Éric,
P. meridionalis is known from The Netherlands and I expect it also to be known already from Belgium. That this species is not mentioned as occurring in Belgium and The Netherlands on the Fauna Europaea site doesn't say much. I know a lot of flies that are known from The Netherlands but are not mentioned as such on the Fauna Europaea site. The Fauna Europaea database is far from complete.
