Hello !

One of my recent post (30-07-2008 16:55) I showed a Geomyza sp. from Hungary. That was photographed in humid conditions near a river. Jan Willem's idea was a Geomyza martineki, but not sure.

Today I found another Geomyza specimen, it looks like the same fly for me. I hope it is a better shot than in July.
The habitat is different anyway: a loessal hillside with dry steppe vegetation (Bromus erectus, Aster amellus, Peucedanum alsaticum etc,), altough the grass was dewy.
Size: ~5-7mm; Locality: NW-Hungary

Greetings,
David

This looks like Geomyza venusta to me. I suppose you didn't collect the specimen!? If you did you can send it to me so I can make sure that it is indeed G. venusta. The size of this specimen is almost certainly much smaller than 5-7 mm. More like 3-4 mm.

Thank you very much, Jan.
You are right, its size was smaller than I valued.
Unfortunately this specimen had not been collected.

Greetings,
David
