Thread subject: Diptera.info :: any chance for Ectophasia oblonga?

Hi,
We have lots of Tachinids, busy with visiting flowers, at the moment. Beside the big Tachinas, Ectophasia is the most striking one. Could this one be E. oblonga, or is it E. crassipennis as usual? Theo once asked for a ventral pic, but the fly disagreed once more...
Seen today on wild carrot.
Thanks for help, Sundew

It's hard to say ... the best way to do them is genitalia and I have never seen one myself. But it is possible, working on just the secondary features. Theo will know though :D

Congrats.

This is it, typical male oblonga. The bloodred colour says it all.

Well done !!

so is this the most northern register for Ectophasia oblonga? I thought it was southern species...

No, I think Jorge wanted to point out that he had already submitted very good photos of this species to the gallery about a year ago, so there is no urgent need to add more. At least I interpret his post that way :).

oblonga is already mentioned by Tschorsnig & Herting for the 'neue bundeslander'.
