Thread subject: Diptera.info :: No idea

Never seen this one before, in my house, in a semi-rural location in Central Scotland, 11th July. Anyone care to comment on how common it is in this part of the world, or the UK ?

Yes - Volucella pellucens it is ;) Fairly common down here in the south but not sure what it's like up there. Have a look on the UK Hoverfly forum at http://www.hoverf... - I think Stuart has distribution maps there for each species :)

Thanks - he did. Certainly not unknown up here; I'd just never seen it. Likes brambles apparently and there are not many within a mile or so of here.
