Hi everyone, and especially Theo!

Is this a male Odontomyia hydroleon? Antennae black, scutellum almost completely dark, black spots broad, and on the last picture it looks like the face is prominent, too.

There were also some safe O. angulata around, with clearly brown antennae, big green hind margin at scutellum and not so broad spots on its back. Looking clearly different. Will post pictures, if someone is interested.

Approx. 10 mm

Hi again! Just read that this was almost 3 weeks before the "official" flight season of Odontomyia hydroleon. But it is one, right?

I think you are right with Odontomyia hydroleon!
To the flight season compare Gisela Merkel-Wallner (2015): Waffenfliegen und Holz-Waffenfliegen in Ostbayern

Diese Art wurde nur im Isar- und Donautal nachgewiesen: Donauauen bei Niederalteich (Gundelau,

Hi Eric! Thanks for this information!
Actually I don't see an alternative to O. hydroleon, too.
I found today on observation.org the earliest find reported there in Germany is 2.6.
