I also photographed this hoverfly on June 20, 2024, in a forest area in Hesse (Germany).

Syrphus torvus or vitripennis (not visible, if eyes are hairy).

Syrphus torvus. The yellow bands are onlu half as broad as the black ones (roughly equal width in vitripennis). Also, the front tarsi are more yellowish in vitripennis.
