Sorry, my last Heleomyzidae-post for the time being. I went back again to the horse manure today, 21.02.2025, St. Anton in Tirol/Austria, 1300m above sea level. Thousands of flies, now that the temperature get above 0C, and a lot of courting can be observed. Here I have two couples which I thought to be
H. cf. modesta. But taking a closer look, No. 1 (first two pictures) looks different (second two pictures) at least the female.Can you please clarify, than you so much, Jörg

Sorry, maybe I should add individuals of copula 1 which I was able to document from the very beginning until both separated again. So here is female no. 1

It can be a
Heleomyza sp. The best identification method is to take a great photo of the specimen under a microscope...

Thank you for trying! Yes, I know, I should start collecting specimen rather than only photos. From autumn on I will be retired and have a lot of time :-)
