Hello,
an 8-9 mm male yesterday on 
Solidago canadensis in our courtyard. Does not seem to be the usual 
Eupeodes corollae or 
luniger. Maybe 
Eupeodes latifasciatus?

If you compare Steven Falk's collection of 
Eupeodes species (
https://www.flick...460588728/), you'll see that a banded pattern may occur in some of them. Males are very variable. The best differentiating feature is said to be "second basal wing cell 
completely covered with microtrichia" in 
E. latifasciatus, 75 % or less in other species. So poor chances for photos...
