Hello,

A Cecidomyiidae found in North of France, at Clairmarais, the 18 January 2021, on the side of a cut log
Is it possible to say which subfamily/tribe this specimen belong to with these pictures ?

A male in supertribe Cecidomyiidi. If it is associated with the log, as opposed to coincidentally resting there, it could be Xylodiplosis.

Thanks you very much, John !

I have seen multiples Cecidomyiidae near oak log but I didn't see any females ovipositing, so I will keep it as Cecidomyiidi

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
