Hello,

finally I managed to get a picture of one of these annoying flies, after it landed on my trousers. But the picture isn't at all good.Frown On a second, even worse one, I could see some orange at the side of the abdomen. Is it possible to tell more than just Chrysops sp. after this photo, perhaps from the spot on the eyes. I found they match C. caecutiens, but also other species have yellow eyes with black spots...

At forest border northwest Germany.

The legs are black, so caecutiens it is.

wonderful, thanks a lot!

Today I was again harassed by some very annoying flies at the same location. And again I managed to take a bad photo when one landed on my trousers. Wink
But surprise... This time it was Tabanus bromius if I see it correctly.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
