Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Archytas ?

7 September 2007, NB, Canada. Length: 13mm
I incorrectly identified a similar looking fly as an Archytas HERE, turned out to be a Tachina.
I believe this one is an Archytas

I'm scrolling back looking for something, having not been in the forum much for a while, when I came across these Tony and I'm really amazed nobody commented on the excellence of the photography. I am exceedingly impressed and equally envious that I don't seem able to produce quite such good photos. This is award winning stuff! Well done.

So here's a thing ... how about a thread or better still an article discussing photo-technique? Anybody? A group effort maybe? Either way I believe it would be an asset to Diptera.info [Paul - what do you think?]

Tony T is very good in this kind of photos. One of the best. ;)


The supreme quality comes from one another guy. It is a different
(I would call it microphoto.. indeed) photography indeed - and the setup is very, very expensive... And he made *many* stacked photos.

At 13 mm this should be Archytas aterrimus, which despite the name can have blue reflections from the abdomen. The only other blackish and mostly shining Archytas from Canada is the smaller and rarer instabilis.
