Hello!

Sorry about the poor picture quality. These Eristalis visited flowers yesterday here in Ostwestfalen/Germany. The size was inbetween that of E. arbustorum and E. tenax, but more like tenax. I think they were bigger than the "normal" E. interrupta females, but what else could it be if not interrupta? Thanks for any hints!

Hello Juergen,
You are quite right, it can't be anything else than a female of Eristalis interrupta. There is, as in all these species, some variation in the amount of yellow on the abdomen!
greetings,

For a novice can you say why it cannot be other than Eristalis interrupta. Perhaps what particular features lead you to that conclusion.

Many thanks
