Hello everybody,

I have no idea, what this midge might be; I have noted, that it is "fairly big". Can someone help?

Location: Germany, Rhineland-Palatinum, 53572 Unkel, river Rhine valley, Stux hill, dry and warm habitat (grapeyards), 22. 02. 2016; the fly was attracted by light.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Tipulidae, probably Tipula. The curved veins near wingtip may be distinctive.

Tipula rufina maybe with the dark stripe on the thorax as per this thread ;-

Hello Roger,

Tipula rufina sounds good - as it is said here http://www.nature...ula-rufina, the "black strike is diagnostic"; but is that correct?

Many thanks, and greetings from the Stux hill,

Michael
