Hello everybody,
I have no idea, what this midge might be; I have noted, that it is "fairly big". Can someone help?
Location: Germany, Rhineland-Palatinum, 53572 Unkel, river Rhine valley, Stux hill, dry and warm habitat (grapeyards), 22. 02. 2016; the fly was attracted by light.
Thanks in advance,
Michael

Tipulidae, probably
Tipula. The curved veins near wingtip may be distinctive.

Hello Roger,
Tipula rufina sounds good - as it is said here
http://www.nature...ula-rufina, the "black strike is diagnostic"; but is that correct?
Many thanks, and greetings from the Stux hill,
Michael
