Hello,
the photo is from May 21, 2016 taken in our garden in Hannover, Germany. The fly is about (8 mm), corrected to 4 mm!
Could it be a Gymnosoma? Perhaps a female G. nudifrons?
Sorry for having just this picture.
Thank you for an answer!
Hans

I know the pic is a few months old, but could it be that your memory is misleading you ? It looks like 4 mm. , rather than 8 mm.

Hi Theo,
yes, now I remember that I first thought of an Agromyzidae because of the length when taking the picture.
It is sitting on Alchemilla with hairy (appr. 1 mm hair) leaves.
I hope this helps you?

Well, it is Gymnosoma, so you are never sure,
but it does look like the female of G. costatum.

Thank you so much, Theo!
Indeed it looks like G. costatum as in thread http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=34113&pid=151646.
Cheers,
Hans
