About 5.5 mm long. Collected July 30, 2016 on plant infested with oleander aphids. Adult reared from similar puparium (collected at same time and place) was ID'd as O. fuscipennis by Bill Dean on Bugguide (http://bugguide.n...ew/1267407), but unfortunately I didn't photograph the immature stages of that individual.
Ocyptamus fuscipennis? Ocyptamus sp.?

I'm not familiar with nearctic fauna but this pupa is very similar as our European Episyrphus balteatus. Do you have this in Texas?

Thanks for the comment, Atylotus. A quick online search turned up no evidence that Episyrphus balteatus occurs in North America. Its puparium does look very similar to this, though.

I was finally able to photograph the larva, puparium and adult of a single individual, which turned out to be Ocyptamus fuscipennis. Here are the images:
