Hello,

could help to further tahn the faimily for this nice male of Culicidae? Maybe Ochlerotatus or Aedes?

It was found on a wall at dusk not far from fishing artificial pound and vine field in South-West France (Gironde 33).

I'd agree with Ochlerotatus. Unable to say which species. :|

Thanks a lot for this answer.

What type of details would be needed to try to discriminate between the different species? It would be easier with a female isn't it?

Males can usually be distinguished by microscopic examination of the genitalia, so they can be in quite poor condition. Females, however, need to be in good condition (still covered with most of their scales) to be able to identify them. Some species can be identified from photos, but specimens are better, and necessary for some groups.

I will see for the females seen on the same place.
