Hi,

Here You have a very common looking female Phaonia. The radial node has setulae on ventral side of the wing and that is confusing. As the hind tibiae has pd seta in distal third, prosternum is bare and radial node setulose, there should be only three possibilities left. P.jugorum does not fit at all and then we have two: P.pallida and P.mediterranea. P.pallida is yellow and common and mediterranea does not live up here in Finland. Conclusion: my id is wrong but why ? The fly was collected with malaise here in Helsinki, Finland last summer.

Hi Jari,
indeed very confusing for a Phaonia, especially as it has 2+2 ks, a combination normally absent in Phaonia. On the other hand, 2+2 ks and radial node setulose on underside of wing is typical Helina. So I ask you : are you sure for the pd on hind tibia ? Helina crinita could be a good candidate if Helina were confirmed.

Well I tried to look several times and ended to Phaonia. But ... now when You suggested Helina, it keys out straight to Helina ciliatocosta. A common fly up here. In my key crinita should have fore femur predomintly yellow. Thank You Stephane. I should look more Muscidae again for not making mistakes like this ;)

My fault, I wanted to say confinis, not crinita. H. ciliatocosta should have 3 post dc...
