Can anyone suggest a family for this fly? Light trap, Townsville, Queensland.

I think Sphaeroceridae, Limosininae. The short hind basitarsus should put it in Sphaeroceridae, which has species with spines on the costa. A dorsal shot would help.

Dorsal as requested. I wonder why he needs so many spines?

Limosininae, but I can't place it comfortably into an American genus. Australian Sphaeroceridae were revised in 1973 (
