The bigger Tipula obscuriventris larvae from the last video
has been cut and opened to sample a piece of skin and verify the setae position and distribution on the abdominal segments
And inside of the body there were 7 living larvae hung to the tracheal trunks
at the level of segments VII, VIII
These larvae have been observed anf we can see some pictures about a few features of its
We suppose that they could be Tachinids larvae (Siphona ?) asTachinids are well-known to have this habit of endoparasiting Tipulids
Here are the pictures. Larvae are 3 mm length, are white to transparent
and fixed chitinously on the tracheal trunks of Tipula
Please, we'll be very happy to make other pictures on these larvae if it could help to determinate better these organisms
Just tell me what could be observed and photographied to reach this goal
prothoracic stigmate
dorsal view of cephalic skeleton
spicules all over the skin
