Hi,

on a hiking trip to the Alto de la Garajonay I found this nice fly. I thought of a tachinid, but I'm not sure!?
Does anybody have an idea about the family, genus, species?

Thanks in advance,

Marc

Tachinidae. Possibly Gonia.

Yes, correct.

It is a melanistic Gonia ornata. Some people consider the Gonia from the Canaries to be a separate species, quadrisetosa, but I am not convinced,

Hi Theo,
G. ornata is only found in Spring though? G.bimaculata is found in late Summer and you refer to this species as common in your 2002 paper on the Tachinidae of Madeira. Usually G. bimaculata is much paler than this though? Also might it be Pseudogonia?
