As for the correct spelling, that depends (possibly) on your definition.
If you understand 'proper' as in 'proper ancient Greek', it is more than obvious that the correct spelling is "Ornithomyia" as in all '-myia".

If you understand it as "according to the Code accepting hunderds of misspellings by Rondani and a few by others" you have to look it up yourself (for instance at www.diptera.org). I don't care.

It is and has been my opinion (like Herting) that science means also correcting mistakes, so that is what I do !
