These pictures were taken by a friend on 26 May 2015 near Croydon in southern England. Using John Smit's key in
De Nederlandse boorvliegen I have arrived at
Orellia falcata. As the species is new to me and the pictures are not perfectly clear I would be grateful for confirmation or correction from somebody with a more experienced eye than mine.
Best wishes,
Phil

A slightly better view of the wing.

Looks either a very aberrant
O. falcata or an aberrant
O. scorzonerae; to my knowledge,
O. sc. is not known in British Is.
Ergo:
O. falcata, but further observations would be interesting.

Thank you, Valery.
O. falcata is indeed the only
Orellia in the current British list.
I shall ask the photographer to look out for the fly if he visits the locality again but I am not sure how often he goes there.
With thanks and best wishes,
Phil
