To my untrained eye, I think this could be a Tabadinae, possibly
T. promesogaeus or
T. bromius, although, unfortunately, it is virtually impossible to see the stripes on the eyes. This fly was in my house in Burgundy, central France. Am I on the right track, please?

Thank you, Sergiy. I can see now that the fly is either
T. bovinus or
T. sudeticus I am leaning towards
sudeticus because I don't recall seeing any reddish/reddish brown colour on the tergites and the bands appear to be black to dark brown. However, I can't be certain and so, for now, I'll treat it as
T. sudeticus/bovinus. Many thanks again, for your help

I'd say it looks more like T. bovinus to me (greenish eye color, blackish antennae etc.) however, with this single image we can't go further than T. bovinus/sudeticus. By the way, the abdominal pattern is not reliable for separation of these species...
