Can anyone suggest a family for this fly? Light trap. Townsville, Queensland.

This may be another of the kind that reminded me of Ephydridae and Paul of Milichiidae.

Thanks John. Going back over Paul's notes, he said Milichiidae should have a deep notch in the costa, this fly does not. So I will go with Ephydridae.

Does it have hairs above and below the arista? If so, it isn't Ephydridae. Also consider Agromyzidae.

This is the best I can do, which can't answer your question unfortunately. My microscope doesn't have enough magnification either.

I've been wrong before, but this has Milichiidae stamped all over it, rather than ephydrid. (Short fat hairy legs, large antennae, pubescent arista, elongate mouthparts ...)

Try for a lateral shot of the head.
