Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Brazilian wasp mimic ? -> Asilidae, Rhopalogaster sp.

Atlantic rain forest, close to sea level, Rio de Janeiro. January 6th, 2015-
I simply have little clue to what kind of fly this is. My memory say that the length was about 15 mm or less.

Possibly Rhopalogaster, family Asilidae.

Thank you very much. The genus Rhopalogaster seems to be a fungus !

This is definitely a female Rhopalogaster sp. (good ID John!). The antennae are very long in this genus (= longer than the thorax) and are pointing upward, toward the camera, in this photo.
