This might be related to the North American Condylostylus sipho. Or the resemblence could be coincidental. My recollection is most of its tropical relatives have dark fore coxae.

The last key to tropical species is by Parent in the 1930s. I do not have it.

This fly does not belong to the group including Condylostylus caudatus and erectus. They have clear wings, usually dark femora (male only), and the shape of M2 is different. A more easily accessible reference for members of the caudatus group with hairs on the face is Curran 1942:58 (as Laxina): http://digitallib...e/2246/381.
