Not a dipteran obviously, but will be of interest I think.

Many years ago I was involved in a project to collect data on Lymantria antennata/lunata. It was run by DFAT. I had a funnel trap and hung a lure inside to collect the moths. So it was in use in 2008. Now discontinued. Recently I thought I'd use the same trap to catch a few flies, so hung it out the back with some rotting meat in it. A couple of days ago I found two Lymantria lunata in the trap. I had washed out the trap, but it still was able to attract a couple of males. What a sense of smell these moths have.
