Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Unusual crowding

This photo was made in Japan, Kasama, on 7 November 2014. I saw a picture with similar adult crowding in an African species of Dolichopodidae. Does it occur in other families?

I also observed the same behaviour with chloropids, but under the leaves.

Narchuk wrote it is most probable a chloropid. Below is a photo of Doli (probably Hercostomus) from Tanzania made by Steve Marshall (I guess the photo is unpublshed)

the photo is on page 279 of Marshall's big book of flies.
