Found today in my garden, River Rhine area Netherlands. Muscidae, Lispe.......?

It is Hydrophoria lancifer.

I had to look for quit some time, but I think this could be Zaphne divisa (looks very similar to H.lancifer)
I asked Dick to send me a sharper view of this fly and the prealar seems indeed shorter.
He will send me this specimen for a further ID.

It is indeed Zaphne divisa (Meigen).

Main differents between Z. divisa and H. lancifer:

Zaphne divisa:
prealar shorter than posterior notopleural seta
2-3 fine hairs just behind the posterior notopleural seta
frontal vitta mostly orange
calypters less yellowish

Hydrophoria lancifer
prealar as long or longer than posterior notopleural seta
no fine hairs around the posterior notopleural seta
frontal vitta mostly black
calypters yellowish

And now, I wonder how many times I could have given mistaken answers about H. lancifer. :o
I'm suddenly very embarrassed.:S

It is only that I recently again did a study on Zaphne species...
I probable made the same mistake on many H. lancifer in the past.

I don't know if this can be added as a constant character, but the anterior katepiternal setae seems closer to each other in Zaphne divisa...

I have lots of female H. lancifer, but only some female Z. divisa.
I need more specimen of Z. divisa for a proper study on the characteristics, because I think, there must be also other differents to find as constant character.
I will come back on this!
