Please identify Platypezidae(male) flies. Slovak Republic, Malá Fatra, approximately altitude cca 700 m a. s. l. Thank you very much for your help. Best regards! Fote date: 11. 05. 2014.

First time I challenge Pkatypezidae :o.
All you said about family and gender is correct.

1) dm-cu present, no median fork, 1st tarsomere III really elongate -> s.f. Callomyiinae

2) 1st flagellomere short/conical (I admit not much visible), R1 with micro-spines (clearly visible in the last photo...zooming a little in the sc area) -> Callomyia sp.


C. elegans male.

The yellow halterae indicate that this is either C. amoena or C. elegans. I cannot decide between these two.

C. elegans has silver abdominal markings on apical margins of T3 and T4, while this one has not them. So you can exclude elegans.
