A very unscientific web search suggests this might be Chlorops strigulus. Are there confusion species? From calcareous dry grassland in Yorkshire UK today.
EDIT: Now keyed out to strigulus.

Chlorops strigulus (Fabricius, 1794), Chloropidae. Compare with the link: http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=5&thread_id=52911, lateral stripe on abdomen only weak.
