Hallo again, this time if feel quite unshure with this beast.

At the first view I thought it's a Bombus, especially from back side.
Now I think, it belongs to Gasterophilidae

North Spain, high over the small village Es 24433 Balouta, Léon, Cantabrique mountains, near the highest point of the street, that leads to Es 24450 Toreno, Léon. That means, over 1600 m.

I have another picture of the back, but no better of the front

I am greatful for any hints,

This hint leads me to Arctophila bombiformis - female,
- and somebody should move the thread to Syrphidae

The first hint could have been that I had already moved the thread to the Syrphidae forum before the first reply had been posted. ;)

That's very right, my fault.

Most pictures of Volucella bombylans, that I found, have a white back. The ones with orange back are black at the pronotum. And they are not so hairy as on my photo. Malota fuciformis fits better - from the coulours. At Arctophila bombiformis I see, that the eyes are less seperated.

A female Volucella bombylans indeed, it has a typical snout and plumose arista.
The species has three color forms, of which one form is colored like this, and it's called haemorrhoidalis.
