Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Zaphne caudata

I took this ?Anthomyiid this morning on the edge of mixed forest in N Scotland. I usually ignore this family, but the extraordinary hairs on the sternites make me hope that it is distinctive enough for someone to identify.

Change title to Anthomyiidae to attract the experts. We have several species in North America with conspicuous hairs under the abdomen but they are not confined to a single genus.

This has now been identified at NMS as Zaphne caudata.
