In the last year I was in contact with Antonio Camacho, from Canarias, and with Christian Kehlmaier due this acroceridae fly - Acrocera cf. cabrerae. It is an Acrocera beyond a doubt, however it is not well established the species.
I got the specimen from Antonio Camacho and then forwarded it to Christian Kehlmaier. Well, we have the barcode of the specimen but unfortunately NOTHING to compare with it! Why? Because no one ever saw a male specimen of Acrocera cabrerae... there is no description of the male. As Kehlmaier told me : " So it's status quo for the time being. It most probably is a male of Acrocera cabrerae but we cannot be 100% certain as the male sey has never been described in the literature." Nevertheless, I hope that Camacho can catch the duo of the Acrocera and in this way we can confirm the status of this acrocerid hopefully. It could be a new species but the probability is higher to be a male of A. cabrerae.
If someone goes to the Canarias islands and got a chance to see these flies please collect them and forwarded them to Christian Kehlmaier so we can know better the status of Acrocera.
